Abstract: L ar ge eddy simulation coop erated w it h the second or der full ex pension ET G f inite elem ent m ethod is applied to simu
late the flow over a square obstacle mounted on the floor of a channel. T he flow f ield at Reynolds number of 40000 is simulated . T he
num erical results f it w ell w ith repor ted exp er im ental and num erical r esult s. I t show s that LE S coop er ated w ith appropriate discrete
schem e is good at identifying the largescale vo rtices in the flow f ield and their tim e history.
