CNOOC Research Center, Bei- j ing 100027, China) Abstract: A coupling simulation method is presented or solving the interaction o internal solitary w aves with deep-sea risers w here lows due to internal solitary waves are resolved by use o the numerical lume method, and structure responses are analyzed by use o the inite element method based on the thin shell model . Such coupling simulations o the luid- structure interaction are accomplished by use o a novel method w ith the on- line transmission betw een luid dynamic load and structure response data. The load and dynamic characteristics are numerically simulated and analyzed or a long lexible riser ( length to diameter ratio = 1 200) w hich is subjected to a shear low pro ile induced by the in- ternal solitary w ave. Results show that internal solitary w aves w ill give rise to the sudden shear load, as well as the large de ormation or the riser, there ore the in luence o internal solitary w aves
