A Rose for Emily, first published in the Fo- rum in April, 1930, is a masterpiece of his short fictions. What is interesting is that no rose was directly mentioned throughout the story and no one sent Emily a rose during her lifetime. The word rose used in the title has great symbolic significance. The paper discusses the symbolic significance of the rose through analyzing the structure of the story, personality of Emily and historical background of the writer.
