Every computer has an operating system that performs three basic functions: Firstly, managing the computer′s resources (including the keyboard, the mouse, the printer, the monitor, the storage devices, and the memory),* Secondly, providing a user interface, for instance, a window-like graphic user interface, in order for the user to interact with application programs and hardware devices, Thirdly, loading and running application programs. Basically, the operating system is categorized into three types: embedded, network, and stand-alone operating systems (See Figure 3-1).
