Abstract Abstract AAbbssttrraacctt With the robust introduction of New Concept English in recent years, a growing numberof Chinese students and teachers paid close attention to it, so it is highly necessary to conduct a comprehensive study of the translation of English text titles from the New Concept English. When learning every single text in the New Concept English, learners willhave a glimpse of thetitleand its translation. So the translation for thetitle isfar more importantthan weconcerned. This thesis aims to analyze the translation of English text titles from the functional perspective in the hope of elaborating the application area of Skopostheorie and finding a guiding theory for text title translation, and trying to work descriptively to discover the principles underlying English text title translation, which is a purposeful, communicating and intercultural activity. Its ultimate purpose is to induce the readers to study the text and arouse their interests of studying English. And it means to produce a target text title with defined functions of informing, persuading and entertaining the target readers, serving as the cultural medium and communicator and appealing to reader’s interests. According to Skopostheorie, translation strategies are determined by the purpose (Skopos) of the target texts. Five chapters are concluded. An introduction to the motivation, theoretical basis, aims, methodology and data collecting of the research will be filled in Chapter one. Chapter two focuses on the definition and genre of English text of NewConceptEnglish, the functions and features of text titles, the naming methods of text titles as well as the differences between Chinese text titles and English ones. Chapter Three deals with the theoretical framework which begins with the discussion on the background of the Skopostheorie, and it gi
