Unit 1 Ann’s dream
The first period
Structures:
(Ann) had a (dream).
(She) was (an astronaut).
(Ann) and (Ken) were (in a spaceship).
Warm-up
(1) Sing a song.
(2) Free talks.
Set the scene
Have the children talk about what they did during the summer vacation.Ask questions about where they went, who they saw, what they did etc. Have them share their experience with each other.
New lesson
Present the structure using your real information during the vacation, “I was in Beijing.” Then ask the children the question, “Where were you ?” You can use Chinese to help the children. Ask a children in Chinese where he/she was in the summer vacation. Then say, “He/She was at home.” To other children. Repeat the process with several more children.
Get prepared
Ask children if they had any dream at night these days. Have them talk about their dreams with questions of “Were you in the dream? What were you in the dream?”
Have the children open their books at page 2and 3. Tell them they are going to read about Ann’s dream.
Ask the children to look at the story and then have them describe what liiustrated in each picture and what the main plot is.
Have the children listen to the tape , checking children’s understanding or explaining the new words to the children. Point to the spaceship in picture 5 and say, “It’s a …” Have the children complete the sentence. Repeat with the words astronaut, Mars, Martians. Tell them that the context and pictures often provide clues for the meaning.
Tell the story
Now draw the children’s attention to the text at the bottom of the pages.
Tell them Ann is talking about her dream she had last night.
Have the children look at the pictures. The teacher tells the story to the children.
Now have the children read the text by themselves.
Play the tape. Have the children listen.
Play the tape again,ask questions to check the children’s understanding.
Homework:
Have the children choose a dream they had and talk about the dream.
