In the past when the teaching conditions of higher schools are not good, the practical education is not usually an essential part of the optimal control course. Along with the rapid progress of computer science, the computer based virtual simulation, which is more economical, is substituted for the traditional electrical experiment, and becomes a new approach for the optimal control practical education. A brief look back of the practical education of the optimal control is given firstly, then the advantages and drawbacks of the virtual laboratories are analyzed. The new development tendencies and problems to be answered of the optimal control practical education are indicated in the end of the paper.
