Conclusion 7  Abstract O · Henry’s, whose original name is William Sydney Porter, is one of the three greatest short story master in the world and the founder of American modern short story. His fame has spread on all side. O · Henry’s short stories are well known for their wit, wordplay and clever twist endings. This thesis mainly analyses the twist ending in O · Henry’s short stories. With this writing skill, O · Henry reveals and sublimes the themes of his sorties. Part one describes O · Henry’s experience simply. Part two is about the five typical endings of O · Henry’s short stories including the revealing ending, the violating ending, the veering ending, the ironic ending and the coincidental ending. In part three, this paper mainly analyses the function of twist ending. For example, the twist ending has functions to rich the themes of fiction, to reveal the character’s personality and to illuminate people
