From the cognitive perspective, spatial relations are en trusted on objects b the active hum an construal. Of the three elem ents of spatial relations, O1and O2 are the bas ic elem ents, based on which hum ansm ake their cognitive observations, and hum ans are the ke elem ent that entrusts spatial relations on O1and O2. Spatial relations involve at least wt o objects, one ofw hich is the located ob ject and the other is the reference object. The spatial location of the former is specified in reference to the latter. Cogn itivel speaking, the located object is indeterm inate, m ovable and new w hereas the reference object is determ inate, stable and given. Linguisticall speaking, therem a be one orm ore linguistic w a s to express the sam e spatial relation. Therefore, pragm aticall speaking, the expression used b the speaker in h is commun ication w ill have to be based on his comm un icative purpose and h is pragm atic inten tion.
