E. , Zhaoqing University, Zhaoqing 526061, Guangdong China Abstract:With the combination of the methods of documentary analysis, investigation , and analysis, this paper review ed the history of P. E. specialty in higher education in China and analyzed the current situation and existing problem s. Fur- thermore, the innovation strategies were proposed . The results showed that although the current P. E . specialty setting and specialist cultivation mode contributed a lot to the development of P. E. in higher education, it f ell behind the development of te society . It is essential to reform the structure of P. E . specialty and innovate the curriculum setting of P. E . specialty. According to the demand characteristics of P. E . experts which is required by Chinese society at the beginning of the 21st century. It is very necessary to create the four- year program and train all rounded students in P. E to meet the demands of the social development of the 21 century. Key words: P.
