Life Story Major Literary Works Artistic Points of View Major Features of Her Writing Her Position in English Literature Pride and Prejudice Life Story Born on 16 December 1775 in the village of Steventon in Hampshire.; Began to write as a teenager; Moved several times, eventually settling in Chawton, near Steventon after her father died in 1805; Wrote and anonymously published several novels from 1811 to 1816; Suffer from ill-health in 1816 ; Died in Winchester on 18 July , 1817. Sense and Sensibility (1811): her first novel Pride and Prejudice (1813): her “own darling child”; received highly favourable reviews Northanger Abbey (1814) Mansfield Park (1814) Emma (1815): giving the thought over self-deceptive vanity Persuasion (1818): her last novel; a study of manners (风俗) She considers it her duty to express a discriminated and serious criticism of life, and to expose the follies and illusion of mankind; She firmly believes in the predominance of reason over passion, the value of ration and sense over that of sentimental, Gothic and romantic tendencies; In style, she is a neo-classicism advocator and believes in order, reason, accuracy and gracefulness.
