A bstrac t: This paper provides a critical review of the Brandt Brandt m odel and proposes a modified m odel of cognitive poetic analysis of dram a
tex ts based on the generic characteristics of dram a. Application of the new model to the analysis of BrechtsL ife ofGalileo not only provides an integrated,
interactive account of them ultilayered enunciation structure and the ∃ recycling% newt ork in the dialogue and didascaliae of the play, but also explains the
developm ent of the protagonists cognitive style and hence clarifies criticslongstanding controversies on the characterization of the play.
