This paper, based on the field work at three Hakka villages at Gu Tian Town, Lian Cheng County, Fujian Province, China, demonstrates the different folk religions within the same Hakka community.While believing that regional identity is one of the important elements in the formation of folk religion, I find out that lineage plays a key role in the formation of folk religion and the attitude toward the belief symbol. The relation of lineage to folk religion is interactive rather than unidirectional. A clan is not only the actor of the folk religion, but also dynamic existence. There exists a corresponding relation between the coming into being, development, prosperity and decline of a clan and its adopting, enhancing or rejecting of a folk religion . In the current times of transformation changes in rural society are reflected in the folk religion . The shift of economic center, the wide spread of media, the rapid transmission of information may affect people’s choice of folk religion . Thus, the competition among different folk religions will get more and more intense. 一、
