Methods 100 patients w ith primary and met astat ic liver car cino ma under went transhepatic por tal vein catheterizatio n under ult rasonic guidance. Results Of the 100 cases, the success rate of puncture w as 96. 9% . T he catheter in po rtal vein at the ear ly stag e w as 7 to 14 days ( 9. 2 2. 7 day s on averag e) , while 23 to 60days ( 44. 7 13. 5 on av erag e) when the technique improv ed. T he efficacy of chemo thera py v ia tr anshepat ic po rtal vein cathet erizatio n fo r patients with hepatoma w as super io r to conventio nal per ipheral v ein ad minist ratio n. Conclusions T he metho d co uld be repeatedly used fo r intra po rtal administr atio n of drugs and enhance the effects. t is safe, reliable w ith no serious com plicatio ns and w or th being applied.
