Methods The CTX- level in the synovial fluid w as measured by enzyme linked immunoassay. The degree of synovitis w as assessed w ith Ayral# s score system and the degree of cartilage injury with Outerbridge# s score system under arthroscopy . Results T he CTX- level in the synovial fluid of OA knees was higher ( t= - 7558, P 005) than other knee diseases. The CTX- level in the syn ovial fluid of t he knees was higher in those w ith Ayral# s score ∀ 0 t han in those wit h the score 0 ( t= - 5113, P 005) . The CTX- level in the synovial fluid of t he knees w as correlated positively w ith Ayral# s score ( r= 070 , P 005) in 71 knees. Con clusion The CTX- level in the synovial fluid of the knee can reflect the degree of accumulat ive cartilage injury and synovitis as a biomarker, especially accumulative cartilage injury. The synovitis is more severe when the CTX- level in the synovial fluid of the knee is increasing.
