Haiga is a Japanese literary genre that combines a visual image with a short, subtly-linked poem (usually haiku, senryu or tanka). Classic haiga used simple ink brush strokes and calligraphy. David Giacalone, of Schenectady, NY, wrote the poems appearing in this Calendar. His Mother, Connie Giacalone [“Mama G”] of Rochester, NY, took the photographs, except for her wedding photo on the cover, and the October photo, which was taken by her son Arthur J.
