She is the author of twenty-seven novels which include those prize-winners such as The Black Prince (1973), The Sacred and Profane Love Machine (1974) and The Sea, the Sea (1978). Not only that, she is also the composer of a handful of plays and poems, a number of influential articles and treatises. Owing to her deep concern for ethics and moral problems confronting human beings, she is also known as a moral philosopher. She uses the novel as a way of developing her own philosophical ideas, which of course distinguishes Murdoch from her contemporaries.
