Magic realism It is a kind of modern fiction in which fabulous and fantastical events are included in a narrative that otherwise maintains the “reliable” tone of objective realist report. The term was once applied to a trend in German fiction of the early 1950s, but is now associated chiefly with certain leading novelists of Central and South America. The term has also been extended to works from very different cultures, designating a tendency of the modern novel to reach beyond the confines of realism and draw upon the energies of fable, folktale and myth while retaining a strong contemporary social relevance. The fantastic attributes given to characters in such novels—levitation, flight, telepathy, telekinesis—are among the means that magic realism adopts in order to encompass the often phantasmagoric political realities of the 20th century. flight the act of escaping physically 同义词:escape set up construct, build, or erect 同义词:raise, erect, rear, put up build,?construct,?found,?erect,?establish,?set up 这些动词均有“建设,建立,建造”之意。 hospitable favorable to life and growth disposed to treat guests and strangers with cordiality and generosity having an open mind take up begin work or acting in a certain capacity, office or job 同义词:start return to a previous location or condition 同义词:resume session the time during which a school holds classes 同义词:school term, academic term, academic session a meeting devoted to a particular activity usurp seize and take control without authority and possibly with force; take as ones right or possession 同义词:assume, seize, take over recognize accept (someone) to be what is claimed or accept his power and authority 同义词:acknowledge, recognise, know acknowledge,?admit
