Activatedcarbonfibers(ACFS)withsurfaceareaof1388m ／gpreparedfrom paperby
chemicalactivationwithKOH hasbeenutilizedastheadsorbentfortheremovalofmethy—
lenebluefrom aqueoussolution．TheexperimentaldatawereanalyzedbyLangmuirand
Freundlichmodelsofadsorption．TheeffectsofpH valueontheadsorptioncapacityofACFS
werealsoinvestigated．Theratesofadsorptionwerefoundtoconform tothekineticmodel
ofPseudo—second—orderequationwithhighvaluesofthecorrelationcoefficientsfR0．998)．
TheLangmuirisotherm wasfoundtofittheexperimentaldatabetterthan theFeundlich
isotherm overthewholeconcentrationrange．Maximum adsorptioncapacityof520mg／g
atequilibrium wasachieved．ItwasfoundthatpH playedamajorroleintheadsorption
process，higherPH valuefavoredtheadsorptionofMB．
