Altair 2010 HyperWorks RADIOSS Altair Altair 2010 HyperWorks RADIOSS Numerical Simulation of Umbilical Cables Using RADIOSS 1 2 3 3 (1 100027) (2 Altair ) 3 116024 : HyperMesh RADIOSS : Abstract: Umbilical cable is one of the most important equipments of the underwater manufacturing system of oil. As one kind of multiple layer flexible structures, umbilical cable is composed of steel tubes, electrical cables, optical cables and steel armors helically. Designed for variable use, umbilical cable is subjected to axial tensionbengding and radial tension in the procedure of transportation and installation. So, umbilical cable should not only meet the need of its function, but also meet the requirements of strength, stiffness and stability. The fine FE model of umbilical cables is established with the tool of Hypermesh, and the tension stiffness is obtained by the explicit analysis of Altair RADIOSS. The numerical results are accordance with those of theoretical analysis very well. It provides the design basis and approach for the design and optimization of umbilical cables.
