The Application of Astaxanthin and its

Abstract: Astaxanthin, a kind of oxygenated carotene,iswidely employed in aquaculture and poul-
try raising as pigmentation source.In addition,due to its strong antioxidative activity,astaxanthin also has
promising potential in neutraceutical and healthy food market.The major market of astaxanthin is as a pig-
ment in aquaculture and poultry feed,which is derived from synthetic source.Although the production of
astaxanthinwith microalgae Haematococcus is challenged by some technological problems,with the de-
mand of natural products and the development in microalgal biotechnology, commercial production of as-
taxanthin from massive cultivation of microalgae now became a reality andwill became a promising indus-
try.
