R. China) Abstract : People are payin more and more attention to the desi n of urban public space. What kind of public space is needed is an important problem to be probed into. In this paper, the rationality of the desi n of urban pub- lic space is discussed. The demand of human activities to the public space and the desi n method with considerin the human bein s, human activities and the public space are emphasized. It is pointed out that the public space will lose its meanin without the activities and spirits of human bein s.
