Abstract Objective: o describe a new method of side-to-side neurorrhaphy for the repair of peripheral nerve incomplete injury and study the effect after this procedure. Methods: 12 SD rats were used;bilateral lower extremities of the animals as the operated speci- mens were randomly divided into experimental and control sides. he peroneal nerve of two side were clipped with identical strength, in experimental side,the distal segment was kept close to neighboring tibial nerve, and then the epineurium and perineurium of two neigh- boring segment were incised, at last, two nerve wereanastomosedby side-to-side neurorrhaphy. he nerve regeneration was analyzedwith electromyographic and histological examination after 3 months.Results:A large number of nerve fibers were found in the distal peroneal nerve of experimental side,the quality of the regeneratedfibers exhibited significant difference from control side( P 0. 01) . Conclusion: he side-to-side neurorrhaphy was a new valuable method to repair incomplete injury of peripheral nerve.
