计算方法Matlab 课后习题
Math 6111 - Numerical methods
Coursework 2
Due: 14 December 2011
You must submit electronically (via Blackboard) a copy of the Matlab m-files required by the tasks below. The
deadline is 12:00 Wednesday, December 14 2011.
Penalties for late submission: 10% of the total marks for the assignment per working day after the assignment is
due (where a working day is a 24 hour period starting form original hand in deadline, skipping days on which the
University is closed), for up to 5 working days. No marks will be obtained for submissions that are later than 5
working days.
Assessment Criteria: Assessment will primarily be based on the successful solution of the problems and your method
of solution, which should be justified. You will also be assessed on the clarity of your code. Please ensure that all of
it is written in good Matlab style, is properly commented and is robust; e.g., all input arguments should be explained
and checked. Figures produced should be clearly presented with labels, titles, etc.
Plagiarism: Your are encouraged to discuss your work with your colleagues in general terms, but your submitted work
MUST be your own.
1 Photorefractive liquid crystal cells
A photorefractive liquid crystal cell is formed by the interaction of a photoconducting layer with a standard
liquid crystal cell, as shown by Figure 1. The transmission of optical beams through the cell will induce an
exchange of energy, observed as a change in amplitudes, from the incident beams into a discrete set of
output beams where is defined by the separation in the input beams. This process is known as optical
coupling. Further details are given in a paper by Daly et al, Applied Physics B. 95:3 589–596 (2009).
