Microstructuralevolutionandmechanicalbehaviorof metastableβ-typeTi-25Nb-2Mo-4Snalloywithhigh strengthandlowmodulus ShunGuoQingkunMengGuangyueLiaoLiangHuXinqingZhao SchoolofMaterialsScienceandEngineering,BeihangUniversity,Beijing100191,China 2013-01-06 2013-02-16 Thispaperpresentsasystematicstudyofnewlydevelopedmetastableβ-typeTi-25Nb-2Mo 4Sn(wt％)alloywithhighstrengthandlowelasticmodulus,withfocusonthemicrostructuralevolution MetastableβTialloy; andmechanicalbehaviorassociatedwithaging.Thepre-treatment (solutiontreatmentorcoldrolling) Microstructuralevolution; ωPhase; priortoagingexertssubstantialinfluenceonthesubsequentagingresponseincludingmicrostructural Lowmodulus; evolutionandmechanicalbehavior.Evenunderthesameagingtreatment,theagingproductscouldbe Highstrength (β+ω),oralternatively(β+α),dependingonthepre-treatments.Thisinterestingagingresponsewas discussedonthebasisofthemechanismforω formation.High-densitydislocationtanglesandgrain boundariesinducedbyseverecoldrollingplayakeyroleinhinderingthetransitionfromβ toisothermal ω,favoringtheprecipitationofα phaseonaging.Byagingcold-rolledspecimenforshorttime,superior mechanicalproperties,i.e.highultimatestrengthof～1113MPaandlowelasticmodulusof～65GPa, achievedinTi-25Nb-2Mo-4Snalloy.Thecharacterizationofmicrostructuralevolutionandcomposi tionalchangeindicatedthattheprecipitationoffineα doesnotcausetheenrichmentofβ-stabilizersin β matrixuponashort-timeaging,guaranteeinglowelasticmodulusoftheshort-timeagedspecimen.
