Setting Severity Levels Setting Filters Based on Severity Level and Other Criteria Log Messages Log messages are the messages that each subsystem in the WebLogic Server generates in order to communicate its status. Example: The Security subsystem writes a message to report its initialization status when the WebLogic Server starts. WLS writes the messages to the log files so as to keep a record of the messages that its subsystems generate. The server log records information about events such as: The startup and shutdown of servers The deployment of new applications The failure of one or more subsystems Log Messages The messages include the following information: The time and date of the event The ID of the user who initiated the event The server log messages can be viewed and sorted: To detect problems To track down the source of a fault To track system performance You can create client applications that listen for these messages and respond automatically. For example, you can create an application that listens for messages indicating a failed subsystem and sends email to a system administrator. Loggers Loggers are objects that publish messages to a message handler that is subscribed to it. They are instantiated by the WebLogic Server. Logger Object You can set the following on the Logger objects: Severity level Filter Message Handlers Handlers are the objects that are subscribed to the Logger objects. They receive and print log messages. WLS instantiates and subscribes a set of message handlers. You can create and subscribe message handlers to WLS Logger objects. Message Handle
