Phrasal Verbs and Idioms To deal with something or someone 1) to be able to control your emotions or a situation. E.g.,: My doctor told me the best way to deal with mild depression is to exercise. 2) to look after, talk to or have control of people in an appropriate way, such as with your job. E.g.,: my work involves dealing with mentally disabled children. 3) to take appropriate action in a situation. E.g.,: This customer needs a refund, so can you deal with her please? Im busy? 4) to take appropriate action in order to punish. E.g.,: I cant believe you wrecked the car. When your father gets home he will deal with you! 5) to do business regularly with someone. E.g.,: We always deal with ABC company, so they give us a good discount. IDIOM: we looked at examples of pejorative / derogatory terms to describe someone who is insane: batty, bizarre, bonkers, crazy, cuckoo, demented, loony*, lunatic, mad, mental, nuts*, nutty*, psychopathic, psychotic, raving, whacko, “to lose your mind. BONUS IDIOM: “to lose your marbles” To lose your capacity to think and behave rationally. In other words, to go crazy. E.g.,: after Bills wife left him he lost his marbles. AJESS This section looked at mentioning a surprising fact to support an argument.
