Optimization on generalized engine models and working
conditions for concrete pump trucks

Abstract: By integrating chassis transmission system with dynamic engine system, an onsite testing
method is proposed for engines of concrete pump trucks in terms of generalized model. In particular, this
method is dependent on osite loading using truck hydraulic system without removing the engine from
chassis. In this way, output engine torques are acquired based on hydraulic parameters rather than engine
moments. With regard to camber interpolation, the generalized engine curves are obtained to optimize rel
evant working conditions. Subsequently, the optimal matching between four work conditions and hydrau
lic system is attained. Consequently, the testing verification implies that the maximal error of generalized
model is below 5 % based on camber interpolation. T herefore, this model is a simple yet accurate ap
proach, which produces such an oilsaving rate as 16. 67 % under optimized working conditions.
