Patrick Henry 1736-1799 Born May 29, 1736 in Hanover County, Virginia Homeschooled Protested British tyranny Served in the Virginia House of Burgesses and the Continental Congress Three-time governor of Virginia Died June 6, 1799 at Red Hill Plantation, Virginia He was an anti-federalist and firmly believed in state rights over federal rights. During his lifetime he was known as a radical and a revolutionary. He wrote numerous speeches throughout his lifetime. His writings inspired a nation to stand up for their rights as citizens and defend the values of the country. St. Johns Church St. Johns is an Episcopal church located in Richmond, Virginia. It was the site of two important conventions in the period leading to the American Revolutionary War, and is most famous as the location where Patrick Henry gave his closing speech at the Second Virginia Convention with the famous quotation Give me liberty or give me death. the speech vs. American Revolution TIME: March 23, 1775. PLACE: St. Johns Church in Richmond. INFLUENCE: marked the beginning of America Revolution in Virginia. Speech took place the same day the Revolutionary War began after British troops marched on Concord. THE START OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION 1775-1781 Battles of LEXINGTON and CONCORD April 19, 1775 The battles marked the outbreak of open armed conflict between the Kingdom of Great Britain and its thirteen colonies in the mainland of British North America.
