The study methods adopted by this thesis includes case study, investigation and documentation. From facts and her paintings, the thesis reviews Pan Yuliangs legendary life and summarizes the unique features of her painting: nationality factors, western painting skills and sense of female. It also points out the positive and far-reaching influences Pan Yuliang has made on: the development of females arts in the period of the Republic of China, the society and governments awareness of females arts, the common respect to females arts by women and the whole society, the introduction of western painting skills and conceptions into China and the dialectical absorption of them, and the courage she showed in taking the western skills as a model to develop and enrich the Chinese traditional painting skills and ideas. All these influences mentioned above provide an ideal model for us to innovate Chinas modern painting art by learning from the western painting skills.
