The analysis w ill reveal such a lo ss not on ly concerned w ith textual function in term s of functional gramm ar, bu t also w ith poetic function in regard to poetics. The case study draw s a section from J ane Ey re and one of its version s, and the comp arative analysis followed is focu sed on the tran slation of the p assive structu re s in socalled m aterial p roce sse s in functional gramm ar. It is found that although the version in que stion keep s in tact the ideational function of the original by reversing mo st of the p a ssive structu res in m aterial p roce sses, the tran slator ru in s, uncon sciou sly, the poetic and textual function s of the un ique
