Abstract
Unethicalbehavioramonguniversitystudentssuch ascheatingandplagiarism hasweakenedthecharacterofhonesty in
education.Thisfacthaschallengedthosewhoperceivededucationasaholisticprocessofinternalizingvaluesandnormsthat
leadto theformation ofstudents’moralprinciplesandmoralbehaviour.Educatorshaveplayedtheroleofensuringthe
students tointernalizeandrealizedmoralvaluesandnorms.Astudyof360studentsofthesecondsemesterwhoenrolledat
thecourseof e“thicalandpersonaldevelopment”atAtmalayaCatholicUniversityinIndonesiashowedthatunethical
behaviorsuchascheatingandplagiarism wererarelydone.However,adeeplookatthereasonthestudentsdidacademic
dishonesyt haspromptedthepermissivenessofstudent’smorallife.Thisstudyprovesthatacademicintegriyt among
universitystudentsisworrisome,anditisworsenedbythefactthattheywereenrolledinthecourseof“ethicalandpersonal
development”.Seriouslytakingintoconsiderationthestrongdesireofstudentstochangethecultureofacademicmisconduct,
theauthorsarguethatan educationalmodelwhich isnotoriented excessively tocognitiveperformanceisneeded.The
authorsarguethatthispositionhastobepracticedinlinew iththeinvolvementof“clean”studentswhoareinvolvedasrole
modelsininfluencingtheformationofstudentawarenessandethicalbehavior.
