ASSESSMENT AND DEVELOPMENT STUDY
FOR 10 YEARS HOSPITAL RESEARCH
FOUNDATION
ABSTRACT
Objective To evaluate 10 years performance of research foundation of
a general hospital in Shanghai, analyze the relationship between input and
output, and propose management advises. Methods A research projects
database and a SPSS statistical model were built. An evaluation target system
for hospital research foundation projects was designed according to literature
research and experts’ consultation. The performance of research projects was
assessed by the target system, and the relationship among research output,
financial and human input were analyzed. Statistical measures such as
One-way ANOVA, Multiple stepwise logistic regression were implemented
to analyze the influential factors. Results An evaluation target system
was set up and applied to evaluate the output of hospital research foundation.
The performance showed the sustained and stable contribution to the
comprehensive research output of the hospital. The education of researchers
was found as the key influential factor. Some advices were proposed to solve
the problems and deficiencies on management of hospital research

foundation. Conclusion Hospital research foundation played an important
role in cultivating research projects and construction echelon personnel. The
whole process of management should be strictly implemented on the projects,
and incentive measures are preferable to be set up.
