Allen Ginsberg (June 3, 1926 – April 5, 1997) 艾伦·金斯堡 小组成员: Coke Candy Losa Royal Lydia Contents “Beat Generation” Introduction Life and awards Works Style and technique Appriciation of Howl Beat Generation Beat Generation(垮了的一代): A group of American poets and novelists who were active and influential in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Beat writers rejected the prevailing culture, literary, and moral values, and in favor of unfettered(无拘无束的)self-realization and self-expression. Feeling oppressed(压迫,折磨) by the dominant culture, they held and publicly advocated anti-intellectual, anti-political, and in general, antiestablishment views. ● The major works of Beat writing are Allen Ginsberg‘s Howl (1956), William S. Burroughs(威廉·巴罗斯)‘s Naked Lunch (1959) and Jack Kerouac(杰克·凯鲁亚克)‘s On the Road (1957). Both Howl(嚎叫)and Naked Lunch(裸体午餐) were the focus of obscenity trials(淫秽试验) that ultimately helped to liberalize what could be published in the United States. On the Road(在路上) transformed Kerouac’s (凯鲁亚克) friend Neal Cassady(尼奥·凯塞迪) into a youth-culture hero. The members of the Beat Generation quickly developed a reputation as new bohemian(波希米亚人,放荡不羁的) hedonists(享乐主义者),who celebrated non-conformity and spontaneous creativity. Introduction A leading poet of the Beat Generation. Poet, Leader of literary movement, Traveler, Prophet(预言家), Religious believer. The “Geek”(反常的人;野人) in the Contemporary American Poetry and the literary movement. Opposed militarism, materialism (唯物主义;唯物论)and sexual repression(性压抑). Allen Ginsberg’s Life Born 1926 in Paterson, N.J. to a Jewish family. His father was a poet and teacher, his mother a communist and mentally disturbed. 1943 - -Attended Columbia University 1948 - -mystical visions; insane asylum(精神病院) 1953
