Do not operate the lathe if safety guards are not properly in place Avoid using damaged tools Before starting the lathe make sure that: The chuck or faceplate is securely mounted. The tool and workpiece are secure The key is removed from the chuck The feed mechanism is in neutral The half nut lever is disengaged After setting up the workpiece and before starting the lathe revolve the spindle by hand to ensure that there is clearance between the workholder, the workpiece and the carriage. Keep hands away from revolving chucks and workpieces Always stop the lathe before measuring, cleaning or making adjustments. Use a brush to remove metal cuttings – not your bare hands. Keep the lathe clear of any unnecessary tools and equipment. The work area around the lathe must be kept clean and feee of oil and excessive cuttings.
