First, single factor experiments were done to examine the impact of ethanol concentration, extrating time, extracting temperature, ratio of solid to liquid and other effect on the extraction of Coptis chinensis alkaloids. Then factorial experiments were done to filter out the significant factors. Finally, Box-Behnken experiments were done to optimize the extraction conditions. The optimal extraction conditions of total alkaloids from Coptis chinensis are obtained as follows: ethanol concentration 60%,extraction time 120 min,extraction temperature 81℃ and the material liquid ratio of 1:41. The total coptis alkaloids yield could reach 73.21mg/g under the optimum technological conditions, which is similar with the predicted 73.44 mg/g.
