CAN networks use a serial bus that is shared by all nodes on the bus. It was originally developed in the late 1980s by a German company, Bosch. CAN controllers were initially developed by Intel. Now, many different companies provide integrated CAN controllers. The ones we will be using are produced by Infineon (former Siemens) (C167CR) and Motorola (MC68376). The CAN protocols and extensions have been standardized by several standards organizations, including ISO, IEC, SAE, and NMEA.
