Ⅰ.Analysis of the Teaching Material
1.Status and Function
The topic of this unit is about telling a story.In this unit students will learn to tell one’s report card.Their parents and friends will know how the things are getting along in school.The teaching in this unit is divided into two parts.Section A and Section B.The former part intends to make students involved in the learning activities while Section B focuses on practising the target language in this unit.
(1)In the first period all activities provide listening and speaking practice using the target language.Students will learn what a soap opera is.Such topic is close to students’ daily life,so they are interested in learning this unit.It is helpful to raise the learning interest of students.
(2)In the second period students can continue to improve their listening and speaking skills by doing all activities.The grammer box focuses on direct speech and reported speech.Students will learn to report what someone said.This is the language goal of the unit.
(3)All activities in the third period provide reading,writing and speaking practice using the target language.Groupwork provides an opportunity for students to role play.It can help students improve their ability of speaking English.Maybe for some students this is a chance to make up a soap opera.Also the exercises of the workbook can strengthen the target language of this unit.
(4)Section B introduces more new words.All activities in the fourth period help students integrate the new target language with the language studied in earlier periods.Activity 2c provides oral practice for students.In this period students will learn to report one’s report card in school.It can raise the learning interest of students.Students can learn to be hard-working to get an excellent report card.
(5)Activity 3a in the fifth period provides reading practice.Activity 3b provides writing practice.Activity 3c provides open-ended writing practice u
