The entire process begins when the parts are ordered from our suppliers. The suppliers produce the parts, and package them. A transportation company picks up the parts and delivers it to the plant. The receiving area accepts the parts and delivers them to the temporary storage area. From there, the parts are delivered based on a pull system (i.e. only when needed by the customer) We will look at each one of these elements in a bit more detail now. * Say: Material flow ???? ???? ??? ???? ??. The milk run method is where one empty truck goes to several different suppliers and returns to the plant with a full load. (This was named after old fashioned milk deliveries. The milkman goes from house to house to deliver the milk). The milk run is used when we have several suppliers, fairly close together, who supply only a partial truckload of parts, on a frequent basis. In this case it makes sense for one truck to pick up the loads one after another, and finally come back with a full load to the plant.
