There are about 1250 LTIs in Shell per year, which implies there may be 50000 微小 incidents. This implies that the total 微小 incident cost in Shell could amount to some $500 million per annum. This is consistent with a Health and Safety Executive study, which showed that the cost of 微小 incidents can amount to a significant proportion of annual profit. Catastrophic accidents are more often associated with the oil industry and have a more visible profile (see next slide) * This slide show a long list of sources for lower costs through better management of HSE risks. The list is a compilation of suggestions made during meetings and workshops over time. Many of the listed sources apply to most companies and when they are the subject of focused attention by management (e.g. targets, objectives) they often will indeed lead to lower costs. * * * * * 1.
