What can you learn from the sentences above? (表目的) (表伴随状况) (表短暂动作) 1. V-ing 形式作状语时,其逻辑主语和句子的主语应该保持一致。否则,就会出现“悬垂分词”。 Eg:Entering the house,the door closed with a bang. Waiting for a bus,a brick fell on my head. Climbing to the top of the hill,there is a beautiful view to see. 以上句子可改为: Entering the house,he closed the door with a bang. Waiting for a bus,I was hit by a brick on the head. Climbing to the top of the hill,we saw a beautiful view. 2.V-ing 形式有时态和语态的变化。现在分词的一般式(doing)表示的动作与句子的谓语动作所表示的动作同时发生;其被动语态(being done)多表示一个被动的动作过程,这时句子的主语是分词动作的承受者,二者是被动关系。 Eg :The secretary worked late into the night,preparing a long speech for the president. Being asked to give a performance,she couldn’t very well refuse. 现在分词的完成时(having done)表示的动作发生在句子谓语动作之前,并已完成;其被动语态(having been done)意义相当于过去分词,具有完成和被动的意义。 Eg : Having cried for a while,the little girl went to her mother. Having been told many times,he still couldn’t get it. 3.V-ing形式在句中作状语时,可表示原因,时间,条件等意义,若分词的逻辑主语是句子的主语,则可将分词及其短语扩展成一个状语从句。 Eg: Hearing the news(=When they heard the news), they couldn’t help crying. Having finished the work(=After he had finished the work),he began to read. Being a tailor(=As he is a tailor),he knows what to do with the matrial. Not knowing(=Because he did not know)how to collect enough money for his plan,he went to Mr. Brain for help. Rewrite these sentences using the –ing form. EXAMPLE:He was ill and did not attend the meeting. Being ill,he did not attend the meeting. 1.The baby heard a sound and stopped crying. 2.He lives far from school and is often late. 3.After she
