N anjing University of Technology, Nanj ing 21000 , China) Abs tract: Using the broadband velocity records from the Fujian seism ic netw ork and taking 1h as the tmi e w indow, th is article studed the spectrum characteristic during the entire process of typhoon. s formation, development and de- cline. It is suggested to adopt the predom inant period of the Fourier spectrum as a dmi ension to describe the charac- teristic of the typhoon. Tak ing typhoons / H aitang0 and Tailmi as examp les, the relationsh ip betw een predom inant period and parameters of the typhoon w as found statistically for the typhoon being prelanding Tawi an.
