* A wheel force transducer is more or less a “disk” that replaces the center hub of a wheel with a sensor capable of measuring 3 forces and 3 moments. Because the disk is at the hub interface, the center of measurement is offset from the center of the tire patch. However, the user of the wheel force transducer is often interested in loads data at either the tire patch or the center of the wheel. Because there is an offset of the sensor’s cent of measurement to either of these points of interest, a correction may be required. This correction occurs in the transducer interface or signal conditioner. PCB Load Torque’s Wheel Force Transducer is also more or less a disk, designed essentially as inner and outer rings with 4 sets of 2 side-by-side struts or spokes. Each strut set is strain gaged to be sensitive in one primary translating direction or rotation moment direction. WHY TEMP COMP? Off-axis cross talk is minimized or eliminated. Like a standard production wheel, the WFT is easily moved from vehicle to vehicle at the spindle, as long as the WFT hub matches the spindle bolt pattern and circle. However, gaging a strut that rotates with the wheel means the transducer coordinate system now rotates with respect to the spindle.
