Hughes’ creativity was influenced by his life in Harlem . Life Langston Hughes returned to New York during a period called the Harlem Renaissance. It took place during the Nineteen-Twenties and Thirties. The Harlem Renaissance was a period of great artistic creativity among black people. For the first time, black artistic expression was being widely recognized. On May 22, 1967, Hughes died from prostate cancer. Some poetry collections The Weary Blues (1926) Fine Clothes to the Jew (1927) The Negro Mother and Other Dramatic Recitations (1931) Dear Lovely Death (1931) The Dream Keeper and Other Poems (1932) Scottsboro Limited (1932) Shakespeare in Harlem (1942) Writing technique the marriage of widely varying aesthetics(美学);modernism repetition and musicality[,mju:zik?liti] in the blues Rhetoric [?ret?r?k] (修辞) Anaphora [??n?f?r?] (首语重复法) rhyme the sound and rhythms from blues and jazz music use humor, loneliness, and despair, to imitate the sound of blues and jazz Main contents Unlike other notable black poets of his time, Hughes refused to differentiate[,dif?ren?ieit] between his personal experience and the common experience of black America. He wanted to tell the stories of his people in ways that reflected their actual culture, including both their suffering and their love of music, laughter, and language itself. Main contents Hughes poetry had serious messages. He often wrote about racial issues, describing his people in a realistic way. Although his story was not often pleasant, he told it with understanding and with hope. His Position The poet voice of African Americans.
