People began to concentrate less on religious themes and adopt a more humanistic attitude to life. (6). When people first saw his paintings, they were convinced that they were looking through a hole in the wall at a real scene. (7). If the rules of perspective had not been discovered, people would not have been able to paint such realistic pictures. (8). Without the new paints and new technique, we would not be able to see the many great masterpieces for which this period is famous. 3. To learn about some major movements in Western art and how art has changed stylistically over the centuries. 4. To learn how the information is organized. 5. To develop the students reading ability by skimming and scanning the passage. 6. To develop the students speaking ability by talking about Western paintings. Process and methods: Warming Up : 课前3分钟展示完整版清明上河图,吸引学生的注意力,激发学生对艺术的鉴赏能力。上课后,以提问的形式作为引入,要求部分学生来说说自己对清明上河图的了解及感想。 Pre-reading: 讨论清明上河图后,通过问题“As Chinese students, we have learnt a lot about Chinese art, What about Western art? Do you know some famous Western artists and paintings?” 来转入西方艺术的话题。这个讨论要以学生为中心,激发学生对西方艺术的兴趣。通过图片展示,要求学生简单区分中国艺术和西方艺术的不同。 Reading and Comprehending
