Where there’s the least amount of bandwidth-- The WAN Access Link On either side of the WAN Access link, there’s lot of bandwidth High-speed Internet backbone High-speed corporate LANs In between, there’s a low-speed link -- the WAN access link -- HUGE point of frustration But whenever there’s speed disparity in the network, there are performance problems.. * Two ironies come into play. First, companies invest in bandwidth to support their business applications such as SAP, Citrix and Oracle. Unfortunately, all too often, the bandwidth investment is supporting the less important applications. The reason: Applications are running over IP networks, and IP networks treat all traffic equal—a packet is a packet no matter what it contains. Also, predictability and control are not built into the IP-network model. So your customers are running their businesses largely on applications that rely on IP networks; but the IP networks can’t tell the difference between the critical applications and other less important traffic.
