To Debate Idiom’s Untranslatability from Domesticating Translation and Foreignzing Translation.doc
拟定的毕业论文题目To Debate Idiom’s Untranslatability from Domesticating Translation and Foreignzing Translation一、选题依据(包括目的、意义、国内外现状和发展趋势,主要参考文献):
A nation’s culture is the product of a particular geographical environment. The way of human being’s thought is similar in some aspects, therefore culture has the feature of translatability. However, it does not mean that culture can be absolutely translated. Due to the geographical diversity, culture is untranslatable rather than translatable. Idiom, as a cultural essence, cannot be translated in some aspects. This thesis analyzes that many translators used a large number of domesticating translating strategies and denied a foreign culture’s diversity when introducing foreign culture to our country.
In the history of Chinese translation, domesticating translation has been occupying the main position because its texts are close to the Chinese style, while foreignizing translation in a subordinate position.
Nowadays, with the great development of political and economic activities between countries, cultural exchanges more and more frequently appear. The public foreign language levels have been greatly improved and people can better understand foreign cultures. All these have effectively promoted the development of the foreignizing translation.
There has been an intense debate on domesticating translation and foreignzing translation in the academic world. In the long run, it is indispensable to inject fresh blood into the target language in order to enrich the target language’s culture and promote the development of translation. It is necessary to pay attention to and promote foreignizing translation while using domesticating translation.
