英语1302班 杨博衡 If I can change one thing about my hometown, I will choose to help poor people in the village. My home town is Lanzhou and there are so many poor people in some remote areas. My ambition is to try my best to improve the quality of their lives. Poor people in my hometown need help because they do not earn as much as the society or community is earning, they need help to feed their children and give them the education that we all require. Because of the bad weather conditions, most of the poor farmers don’t have a good harvest every year and they need help with their financial situations as they dont want to die of severe injuries or illnesses they would like to get these things treated. Most of the homeless people who don’t have good policy to support their lives have to live on the streets in severe weather conditions or the occurence of natural hazards and they need help so they can get shelter and clothes. As far as I am concerned, I will be volunteering my time to help the poor. There are several organizations that receive funding to help the poor and I can put my time to use through one of these outlets. I should take all situations into practice. Do the research is a vital part to help poor before you act. Some organizations require long-term commitments and when I am mentoring a child, it must be a long-term commitment because I am forming a relationship. Besides, I will think about what i want to do with my money. Donating to a charity that helps the poor is a selfless thing to do and I should choose from a wide range of charities in the Gansu province or in the nation. Some of the charities are religiously affiliated. At last, I will decide where I want my money to go based on the charity I pick. Some focus on educating the poor while others focus on food and shelter. The last but not least, I should prepare myself for hard work. Fundraising is not easy.
