On this very occasion of presenting the thesis, I would like to extend my sincere
and heartfelt thanks to those who have helped me during the past three-year
postgraduate life.
My great gratitude will firstly be expressed to my supervisor Du Zhengming for

course of the shaping of this thesis. His profound knowledge, remarkable expertise
and enthusiasm in translation studies have inspired me greatly and it has become a
fortune of all my life.

On Translator’s Style from the Perspective of
Hermeneutics – A Case Study of Yu Dafu’s
Translation of A Waitress
Abstract
Constrained by the traditional translation theories, the previous studies about
translating style mainly deal with the translators? endeavor to reproduce the original
style while the translators? styles reflected in their translated texts are either neglected
or devalued. Therefore, there are few studies about translator?s style for its own sake.
In the translation practice, full reproduction of the style of the original text
cannot be achieved and visibility of translator?s style is unavoidable. This study, with
the translator?s style as its research subject and the hermeneutic theory as its
