What is happiness to you (《牛津高中英语》模块六第二单元) Reading: The search for happiness Period 1
Background introduction
The text is a report about an interview, the topic of which is about happiness. The host makes an interview with Dr Brain, who has written several books about happiness and the things people do to keep themselves happy. He uses the example of the gymnast Sang Lan to show how people can find happiness even during times of a personal catastrophe. After reading the text, students are expected to get to know the strategies of reading an interview and are also able to create an interview using some information and strategies learnt from the text.
This is the first time that we have met each other. Students are new to the teacher. Before the class, I am going to have a simple communication with the students, tying to learn more about their English level, characteristics, learning ways and so on. Teaching goals
After reading the passage, students will be able to:
1. specific information of Sang Lan.
2. make an interview with Sang Lan and her friends on how to be happy by using the strategies learnt from the text.
3. make some examples to show that happiness is a choice and can be created by ourselves.
Teaching procedures:
I. Warm-up. 序曲
1. Greet the students and sing the English song: If you are happy. 教师开始进入课堂向学生打招呼,马上引入本文话题:Today I feel happy to have a chance have classes with all of you here. 可以紧接着问部分学生Are you happy today? Can you share your happiness with us? If you are happy, what will you do? 教师可以借此机会引导学生共唱英语歌曲:If you are happy。充分调动学生的热情和学习的兴趣。
2. Talk about something that makes us happy.(在歌曲结束以后,教师可以让学生表达自己感到快乐的事情,为课文作好铺垫)
3. Guess what make Sang Lan happy. (讲述了自己快乐的事情,那么教师就问学生是否了解桑兰这个人,那么她感到快乐的事情又是什么呢? 这时学生阅读欲望就可以激发出来。
II. Presenting. (发展)
1. 通过前面的铺垫,学生对于课文的话题有了初步的了解,这时教师可以针对话题和文章的中心设计阅读问题,培养学生迅速获取文章中心的能力。
